Our elementary school has long been dedicated to environmental ethics, and this year, as part of the Erasmus+ project, we celebrated World Bird Day with all 214 first grade children. This day, commemorated on April 1st, ensures the importance of protecting birds and their natural habitat.

During the first week of April, students participate in various activities that help them better understand the world of birds. Some went bird watching around the school, others recognized different species by their appearance and song. In classes, we discussed how we can protect birds – for example, by feeding them properly in winter, protecting nesting sites, or limiting the use of pesticides. We learned a lot of interesting things and solved various puzzles and quizzes.

This year, although the production of birdhouses and feeders was not part of the project like in other years, the children decorated wooden birds. Creative enthusiasm was evident and the students captured the beauty of our feathered neighbors using various techniques. Some of the products will be placed on the school grounds, others will decorate the children’s homes.

The entire project was implemented as part of the Erasmus+ program, which supports education and environmental awareness in children. We wanted to show the children that nature conservation is not just about grand gestures, but about everyday actions that each of us can do.

The entire bird week was spent in a joyful spirit and the children took away not only new knowledge, but also a deeper relationship with nature. We firmly believe that these experiences will help them perceive the world around them with greater responsibility.
