Miracle in the Hatchery: How Chicks Hatch and What Happens Inside the Shell
Observing the birth of life with your own eyes – that’s something that the students of 5. B Elementary School 28. Října 581 in Žamberk tried out this year. Over the course of three weeks, they watched the entire process of hatching chicks – from the moment the eggs were placed in the incubator to the moment the first fluffy ball hatched.
Today we know that everything starts with an egg, which at first glance is ordinary. But inside, a real miracle takes place over the course of 21 days. During the first week, the foundation of life is formed – a heart, eyes, spine. In the second week, the beak, legs and first feathers grow. The third week was full of anticipation: the chick takes up almost the entire space in the egg and is getting ready for its big day. And what if we heard the first beep from the egg!
Hatching is difficult – it can take a whole day. But then the egg hatched into a small, wet chick, which dried up in a few hours and immediately began to explore the world.
The 5th B project was not just about observation. The children kept a diary, learned about the natural cycles of life and also prepared a commented presentation: “From egg to feathers” for all the remaining classes in the 1st grade of our school.
And so, thanks to the project, 5th B became a witness to a miracle!
